Tippy Taps are a simple handwashing innovation that use local materials to help people wash their hands without having to touch anything with your hands, since the container is tipped using your foot. The local way of doing handwashing is to use a cup of water over a basin, which if someone else is around, you will be helped with. But you may also have to hold the cup yourself as you wash.
Another big benefit of Tippy Taps is that they use less water, since they only allow a small stream of water to flow, instead of a bigger stream when using a cup. This overall saves much time and labour for fetching water, sometimes from many kilometers away.
In addition to our community trainings, Tom also showed the CHE trainers at the last TOT how to make a Tippy Tap. We were *very* excited to see 2 have already been constructed, out of 3 places that we have visited since TOT2.
