On our way to Pader, we went up the Eastern side of Uganda and passed through Soroti, where the Youth With A Mission (YWAM) children's home, Amecet (Shelter of Peace) is located. We went to YWAM with a special mission of our own... ...to meet Elias. Elias' case is still very uncertain. The co-director of Amecet, Simon, found out from police that a very old woman had come into the police station the previous week, claiming to be related to the mother of Elias. The police told the woman to go to Amecet and see him for herself, to make sure he is the same baby. Up until now, the woman has not come to Amecet (perhaps because it is quite a far distance and the woman is quite old). Unfortunately, the policeman did not collect the woman's name or the exact name of the village where she had come from. The staff at Amecet are proceeding with posting Elias' picture in the local newspaper for 14 days, while they wait to see if the old woman will come to the home. They hope to get some information that might lead them to the old woman, so they can verify if the story is true, or if she was perhaps mistaken. And so, we continue to wait. We did enjoy our visit with Elias, and continue to pray God's will be done in his and our lives. God knows what we all need. We thank God that He prepared us for this uncertainty. The night before we met Elias, we felt led to pray for a resolve to trust Him no matter what. We trust that God knows which "forever family" Elias needs, and also whether or not Elias will need a foster family if the investigation proves to be long and hard. We are open to being Elias' short-term foster family if that is what he needs. We continue to ask for your prayers for wisdom along this foster-to-adopt process.
After 4 wonderful months in Canada, we are finally back - not only in Uganda, but in our home in Pader! Before we got here, though, we made a stop in a new, faraway land. We have dear friends who are staying in the United Arab Emirates. What a treat it was to see them! We were not in the UAE for sight-seeing, but we did get to take in some of the landscape and some of the city the night before we flew out to Uganda. It was a real whirlwind on the tourism side, but we did really enjoy seeing the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world!) and the dancing fountains, which are programmed to do a different musical presentation each 30 minutes on the half hour. We stayed for 2 presentations - Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and a beautiful Arabic song. The next morning, we were on a plane to Uganda. This was special for us, because every other time we've flown to Uganda has been in the dark, but this flight was in the daytime! We had a seat near the back of the plane, which gave us clear shots of the geography below as we made our way over the Arabian Peninsula, across the water to Djibouti, then over Ethiopia and Northern Kenya, and finally into Uganda. We have prepared a slideshow to show the vast changes in topography. (For those receiving this post by email, you may need to visit the website to view this...it's worth it! Take a look!) What an amazing world our God has made!
We have more to share about our time in Canada, but it will need to wait until we do the next couple posts about happenings here. |
