Another note on "look"...
A couple weeks ago we were invited to Paipir Primary school for a special presentation. The deaf students prepared a song for Tom and us. You need to look to appreciate a song in sign language - since there is no sound!
They thought we were leaving Uganda and wanted to wish us a safe journey. They also gave us each a silk red rose, with our names printed on them. We felt really blessed. And they were happy when they found out we weren't leaving!
It's amazing to see the growth in the ministry to the deaf over the last couple years. It started with Samuel (left) and Hope teaching Tom Uganda sign language. So Tom started interpreting the service for them. Then a couple more deaf people started attending our church (because it was the only service in town they could understand!). Then it was 10, turning up for service and breakfast afterwards at Tom's place. Then teacher Patrick (green shirt in picture above) started interpreting. Then all the PaiPir deaf students started coming. Now, Patrick, Samuel and another deaf man named Martin are teaching sign language every weekday at 4 pm at our church to all sorts of people who are paying to learn - including a good part of the Pader police department! |
