I suppose we should start from the beginning - which was almost not getting to Michigan due to our radiator very nearly overheating! We were waiting in the customs line on the bridge and Marianne smelled something off. Thinking it was exhaust, we turned off the ventilation. However, a minute or so later, the disconcerting sight of billowing steam emerging from the right side of the hood ensued.
The car cooled enough for the rest of the drive, and we were able to fill the radiator fluid later in the week.
One of the memorable things we did once we arrived in Grand Rapids was look through the 1950's box of pictures and other documents that have been kept by Mike's Grandma. It was really interesting to see what everybody looked like back then, and to see some documents like old tax returns and the deed to the Botting house!
The first was bumping into Mike's great-aunt Angie, a former nurse/missionary in Nigeria for many years (Grandma's sister), whom Marianne had never met and Mike hadn't seen for years. He was looking past her as he held the door at the bookstore for her, when she looked up at him and almost casually said, "You're Chris." (Chris is Mike's brother). To which he responded, with some surprise and slight delay of recognition, "No, I'm Mike."
