Doug Anderson, the International Director of EICanada sent out the link to a brand new 2 minute video produced just this past week in Pader, Uganda - to promote an upcoming documentary film to be released in August on Acholiland. Enjoy!

You might have thought the reference to "Pre-MIT" was inferring something in the last post.
Well if you're did, you're right! Sort of... Meet the new addition to the Botting household...(ours is two-tone blue!) (This was our purpose in going to Granville Island - to procure this addition at "The Hang Out Place". They ship, if you're interested!) This is the fourth BC vacation post. Over the week, we spent lots of time out and about with Chris and Julee's family, as well as lots of quality at home. A favourite pastime - reading of course! The first big outing we had was to the Vancouver Aquarium, since Marianne had never been (despite living in the Vancouver area for 2 years!). Julee packed us some good snacks, which were eaten while we waited for the dolphin show. A couple days later, we celebrated Chris' birthday! After singing "Happy Birthday" and sharing brownies and ice cream (with M&Ms!!) with the kids, "the adults" (which included Chris and Julee's friend John) headed out for some Caribbean food at a great restaurant called The Reef. Of course, what is a trip to Vancouver without a visit to Granville Island? Now, we had a specific purpose to go to Granville Island (which you'll see in the next post!), however just the place itself is plain old fun. On Canada Day, we headed to Horseshoe Bay and took the ferry over to Bowen Island. Unfortunately, we got separated from Chris and he came on the ferry after us, but the boys contented themselves by throwing rocks in the water...until they discovered a real live firetruck that was part of the Canada Day festivities that they could climb onto. Later in the day, we took a nice nature hike through the island and got some good family shots, including the one below. Family time really made up the essence of our visit. We so enjoyed and appreciate the hospitality and love of Chris and Julee and the kids. And for Marianne, it was also a time that she has called "Pre-MIT"... ..."Pre Mother-In-Training!"
(Don't look so concerned, Evie!!) Thanks Chris and Julee! Back in Vancouver after our Pitt Meadows visit... May we introduce our two nephews and niece! (We highly recommend viewing this video if you want to be completely delighted!) ~Sam~ Four and a half years old, and already reading chapter books! Sam has a natural love of learning combined with a steel-trap memory. He is very thorough in everything he does (including eating, which is why he's always the last at the dinner table). And he loves playing games while siblings are napping. ~Jonathan~ Jonathan is 2.5 years old, and is already showing athletic potential! A little guy with an amazing throwing arm and soccer kick, Jonathan loves listening to stories and snuggling, and as Chris and Julee say, "feels things deeply." ~Evelyn~
Evie is 10 months old, and at the "cruising on furniture" stage (though we fully expect to hear reports of walking following Chris and Julee's vacation out east). The best way to describe Evie? How about a little ball of sunshine...with blueberry saucers for eyes! This is the second post about our BC vacation. After visiting with Mike's brother's family and taking a nap for a couple hours, we drove to Pitt Meadows in our Fiat to see Marianne's cousin and his wife. We had a lovely visit, staying for the weekend. On the Saturday, we headed to the Runway Cafe (at the little airport in Pitt Meadows - which is a really nice little community) for some coffee, and ended up staying for lunch, taking advantage of their $15 sandwich (which served all four of us!!). After lunch we headed to the little town of Harrison Hot Springs, stopping at some nice farms on the way, which featured hazelnuts, cheese, and pottery (great nutritional value!). Harrison Hot Springs was a bit chilly until the sun came out, but there were some amazing views, and a beautiful surprise roadside waterfall! Thanks to Marianne's cousin and his wife for the great visit!
So this is the first of a series of BC vacation posts! It's usually appropriate to start at the beginning - so how about the story of our 8 hour plane delay! (As a heads up, we've uploaded the set of vacation photos to Flickr - click here to view!) Our vacation started Thursday June 23rd after work. We had the car packed in the morning, and went straight from a meeting place after work to the airport. Traffic wasn't bad, and the Park N' Fly shuttle came straight away. We felt we made record time - making it there around 5:30, with nearly 3 hours to have supper and just relax. As we waited to check in, however, something didn't seem right. There were only two groups ahead of us, and they were taking upwards of 10 minutes each to..."check in"....or as we found out, be given a taxi voucher that would take them home and return them back to the airport at 1 am! So after waiting in a taxi line-up for an hour (due to closure of the 401 by a transport roll-over), we made it home and walked to Yonge street for Indian food and ice cream. After all, this was our vacation! We went home and slept for 2 hours, and got to the airport at 1, as we were told. It was very empty. Well, our plane wasn't there yet. So the "scheduled" departure time of 2:50 am was further delayed to 4:05 am EST...which meant we arrived at 5:50 am Pacific Time...which is three hours behind EST. (i.e. to us, it was 8:50 am!) Our consolation?
Our sub-compact sized rental car was taken the night before...but we got a Fiat! |
