Ever since we got back from Vancouver in July, we (still!) randomly break out into the Sesame Street song, "C is for "Cookie'". (Hey, don't know it 'til you try it!). The reason being of course because we sang it with our nephews. Thus, we couldn't help but laugh when Mike came across this comic. (Click the image to open the larger version on the original website). Seeing this comic just gives us an excuse to re-post the link to our adorable nephews and nieces, and their version of...(you got it)..."C is for 'Cookie'".

As mentioned in the previous post, we've been to Ottawa and back again twice this month. This last time, we also had the opportunity to go to Belleville. In Ottawa, we celebrated Marianne's Mom's birthday. In Belleville we celebrated Mike's Dad's birthday. Here are some pictures of the time we spent with our parents. On the day we got to Ottawa, we also had the great opportunity to attend a retirement party for some family friends of ours/the Hepplestons. It concluded by a very excited "horse race" - a tradition of the Princess Patricia Battalion that we had the great privilege of witnessing! The "McGregor" horse won, and I think everybody was happy for them (given it was their party!) Two pictures below you'll find a picture of us with the MacGregors. ******************************* Good luck in your retirement! We've been to Ottawa and back twice in the last month. On the first trip, we went to see our friends Alex and Annie get married. It was a nice, smaller wedding, with seashell/island themed decorations and music. We felt quite honoured to be invited, given the smaller number of guests, to witness Alex and Annie's commitment in marriage. It was my (Marianne) first time at a French wedding. I think it might have been Mike's first time as well. During the speeches (of which there were many, though none were very long), I tried to listen and capture as much as I could remember, and relay it to Mike so he could be more in the loop. We had a great table, with our friends Dawn and Jon, Mat's parents (who are super awesome!) and Nathalie, Willow, and River - who (somewhat ironically) chose to sing "Row your boat! Row your boat! Row your boat!" every time she got close to a microphone! Oh yes, and everyone found Annie's shoes for the reception quite amusing! She had to pose for *many* pictures like the one above.
May God bless Annie and Alex in their marriage! Last month we happened to be downtown for Korean BBQ with some friends. We had the opportunity to see the CN tower lit up orange, in honour of Jack Layton's passing. It was a bit of a surreal moment...
After a year of intending to do so, we finally hosted a BBQ for some of Marianne's university friends from her Waterloo days. Though Marianne was a little worried we wouldn't have enough food, we had enough to feed a football team. (In fact, we still have 2 *huge* bags of chips that we need to bring somewhere...because if they get opened in the absence of a large crowd, large waistlines will follow...). Heart...
(Editor's Note: Grrr....this is the second time typing this post because something happened while typing the first. Grrr....) In 2006, Marianne did an 8-month co-op term in Hamilton. We were able to visit Hamilton recently, as Mike was asked to speak at Boston Baptist Church about EICanada's relief work around the world, with a special focus on Northern Uganda (which we turned into an opportunity to visit). We also had Hamilton come to visit us a week later (in a way...). To understand, here are three pieces of information about Marianne's co-op term in Hamilton. First thing to note is that Marianne lived with 3 other girls in a house dubbed "Lamo Bay", because someone figured out that the digits of the phone number could be used to spell (you guessed it!) "Lamo Bay"! Here is a picture of Mariane with one of her fellow "Lamos", Gloria (who is getting married one month from TODAY!). Incidentally, we stayed the night at Gloria's childhood home, not Lamo Bay. We're very grateful to her parents for accomodating us! Second, Marianne has a bit of an old soul. Thus, it's only natural that left without Mike's guidance and inspiration of squash playing, she would choose Aquafitness as her main form of exercise. While attending Aquafitness, Marianne made life-long friends with two ladies named Elsa and Anne. We had the great opportunity to stop in at Elsa and Erik's new condo! Finally (to expalin the part about Hamilton sort of coming to us...), Marianne attended a church called "Philpott", which is where she met Heather. Heather is also known as "the pregnant bridesmaid" to those who attended our wedding.
Well, she's not pregnant anymore! Here's Heather and baby Ben who made it out all the way from Edmonton to see us! |
