On Saturday, we had a big storm. Earlier in the day, we had been on the road when Tom called us and told us to look up at the sun. This is what we saw. Then in the evening, around 6, very dark clouds were on the horizon. Soon the wind started blowing, and the rain started falling. The wind increased, until the rain was coming in sideways. It actually entered our second-storey window and flowed down the wall to the level below, flooding our bathroom. Rain was coming in other windows too, and we were busy mopping it up, with lightning flashing and thunder clapping all around. When it calmed down a bit, we opened the door and took in this scene (click here to see video for those following on email). As you can see in the video, the storm actually knocked down one of our big trees. It also blew down all the maize, though Patel tells us the maize will be okay. When we came back from church the next day, we noticed that our roof was a bit damaged as well. As Mike says, it looks a bit like our house has bed head. We're really, really thankful that our roof stayed on! I'm sure you'll be as relieved as Marianne is to know that our marigolds have perked back up!

Both sun halos and moon halos are cause by the same thing - very thin (and high) cirrus clouds at 20,000 ft or more high.
