We celebrated the two at once on October 9th, which is Uganda's Independence Day. Because we're in the midst of packing up our home, with the big move happening at the end of the week, we decided not to bother with a big feast. However, just like in Canada at this time of year, pumpkins are in abundance right now. Marianne had to bus down to Kampala last week for an administrative issue, so she came back with a tin of condensed milk and a plan...to commemorate Canadian Thanksgiving with our first-ever homemade pumpkin pie from scratch!
It was a bittersweet way to bid farewell to the place that has been our home since the fire in January this year...mostly sweet though, with pumpkin pie being involved! We will, however, miss our neighbours dearly.
