In mid-June we had a very special visitor. Doug Anderson, the International Director of Emmanuel International flew into Entebbe Airport on a Monday and spent 5 days with us in Kampala, leaving on Friday. It was a really encouraging visit. Doug has a true heart for the Acholi people, being himself one of the key people who helped establish Emmanuel International's presence in Northern Uganda in the 1980's. The week was a mixture of work and refreshment. The Country Directors, Alan and Cheryl graciously offered us to stay in their house for the week. We spent the time discussing the work in Pader, changes for EI global, cooking nice food (and also having the treat of eating a couple restaurants - one of which was Mexican - Mike's favourite!), and playing new games in the evenings! Two things were particularly encouraging about the visit. One was the testimony of how God is leading the International Board, and re-shaping Emmanuel International, confirming its niche in the global development world. The second was just the fact that Doug came and gave us his time, and shared his passion for the people that we are currently living among. We decided that in order to be closer to the airport for Doug's departure day, and to have a little bit of a retreat, we would stay one night somewhere that was nice and affordable, just outside Entebbe. First we scouted a place called Nabinoonya. Although we didn't end up choosing it, it had beautiful tree-covered grounds and a nice view of Lake Victoria. In the end, we chose a place called Garuga Beach. The hotel was located 10 km off the Kampala-Entebbe Road, with a road that got increasingly far away from civilization and banked an impressive escarpment overlooking Lake Victoria. Garuga itself was a gorgeous, peaceful place. We saw many birds we'd never seen before (which are featured in the Creature Catalogue!). Below you can see the most majestic of all - the African fish eagle. We thank Doug so much for the visit! May God bless your life and work, all the work in all the EI family.

This edition sounds really relaxing. I believe the Father is giving you, Mike and Marianne, a recharge.
